Neymar, after suffering the worst defeat of his career: "They have every right to insult us"

Neymar described the 6-0 thrashing that Santos received on Sunday against Vasco da Gama in the Brazilian Championship as "a s*** and a disgrace". It is the worst thrashing suffered by the Brazilian striker in his entire career.

"I am totally disappointed with our game. You have every right to protest, but without violence, although you do have the right to insult. It's a feeling of great shame. I've never been through this in my life," said the former Barcelona and PSG player.

The image that summed up the humiliation was the embrace that Vasco da Gama coach and former Brazil coach Fernando Diniz had to give to an inconsolable Neymar at the end of the match, who left the pitch in tears and hid his face with his shirt.

The striker, who is fighting to be called up to the Brazilian national team again, had never lost a match by six goals.

Many of the 53,000 fans at the Morumbi stadium on Sunday had come to the match in the hope of seeing a Neymar exhibition, but they ended up turning their backs on their team.

A few minutes after the thrashing, Santos announced the termination of coach Cleber Xavier's contract.

The 0-6 is the biggest thrashing Vasco has inflicted on Santos in 98 years of competition between the two clubs and the biggest thrashing suffered by Pele's team as hosts in Brazilian Championship matches. Santos had never lost by more than four goals in a home league match.

Today's defeat left Santos in 15th place in the standings, with 21 points (two points above the relegation zone).

The support message from his son

Neymar shared on Instagram a screenshot of the messages of support he received from his son after the heavy defeat. "Good night dad, I know today was a difficult day for you and for us, but I wanted you to know that in these difficult times and when no one is by your side, know that I will always be here to support you. You are more than an excellent father, you are an idol, you are my inspiration, and even on the days when you cry, I want you to know that I love you very much," writes Davi Lucca.

"Keep in mind that your family is here by your side to support and help you at all times, no matter if they are difficult or good. Now I want you to lift your head and go against them as you always did and you will continue to do. You are amazing. I love you with all my heart. And never give up on your greatest dream for people who don't even know you or know who you are, because you are capable. Do not use today's defeat as a failure; instead, use it as motivation to always be better than yesterday. Never forget: YOU ARE AMAZING, LET'S GO AGAINST THEM!"
