Lewandowski proves how Lionel Messi can be beaten by breaking one of his records in the Champions League

In what was a true thrashing of Newcastle United (7-2) in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Polish forward Robert Lewandowski was the protagonist with two goals that allowed him to surpass Lionel Messi in the competition.

Lewandowski breaks a Messi record in the Champions League

After scoring his brace against Newcastle United, Robert Lewandowski added the English club to his list of opponents he has scored against, reaching 41 different teams-more than any other player in the entire history of the Champions League.

Lionel Messi, during his career with FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, managed to score against 40 different clubs, while Cristiano Ronaldo finished with a total of 38 different opponents.

Lewandowski scored his goals in a span of five minutes, also becoming the third-highest scorer in Champions League knockout stages, behind the two football titans Cristiano Ronaldo (67) and Lionel Messi (49).

Now, it remains to be seen whether the FC Barcelona striker can help the club win the Champions League title, a trophy that has eluded them since 2015, when Lionel Messi was still playing for the club.
