On the face of it, Liverpool's struggles in 2020/21 could easily be attributed to their defensive injury crisis which saw them missing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for much of the campaign, but the truth goes deeper than that.
Only Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than the Reds this season, while their attack has allowed chances to go begging time and time again.
Mohamed Salah is the only forward to have beaten his goal return from 2019/20 in this current campaign, while neither Sadio Mane nor Roberto Firmino look likely to match theirs. What's more, Salah has not hidden his concerns over his future.
"We'll see what happens, no one knows what's going to happen in the future," he said, when speaking exclusively to MARCA earlier this year.
Mane has also shown signs of dissent, as he refused to shake the hand of coach Jurgen Klopp after being left out at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Should the club miss out on Champions League football this season, with the side currently fifth in the Premier League, that may mean the end for one, or both, of the forwards.
Big decisions to make
Salah and Mane have two years remaining on their existing contracts at Anfield, but they know that they may be sold if they don't sign new contracts in the next 12 months.
Both have shown signs of looking jaded this campaign, with Mane set to turn 30 next year while Salah is keen to take part in the Olympic Games for Egypt, with both of them also absent for a portion of next season due to the African Cup of Nations.
That could lead to Liverpool looking to cash in on one or both of their flying wingers.
With Diogo Jota having settled in well at Liverpool and other options available in the market, Mane and Salah's era at Liverpool may be coming to an end.
