FIFA has asked the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for details on the possible involvement of an unlicensed intermediary in the hiring of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian national team

The news came after a letter from FIFA was leaked to the press on Thursday. However, the CBF merely reported that it is evaluating "the situation internally".

Ancelotti, 65, took charge of the Selecao on Monday, confirming his departure from Real Madrid. The deal will run until the World Cup in North America next year.

In the letter, dated May 28, FIFA asked the CBF for information about Diego Fernandes, an "unlicensed intermediary" who allegedly took part in negotiations with Ancelotti in Madrid during the season with Real Madrid. If so, FIFA would consider this intervention to be a violation of the Football Agents Regulations.

Were there violations of statutes in Ancelotti's hiring by Brazil?

In its request, the CBF must provide details of Fernandes' role in such negotiations, copies of payments made, communications relating to the hiring and any agreement that may have been signed with the intermediary.

However, the CBF argues that "the terms that involved the negotiation have confidentiality clauses and were drawn up by the former management" of former president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was removed by a court decision on May 15.

"The current management is evaluating the situation internally, through its governance area," added the Brazilian FA

Fernandes' office, for its part, stated that the contract "strictly complies with all CBF and FIFA regulations" and that it only acted as a "consultant" due to the "short timeframe" of the negotiation, which was incompatible with the registration process as a FIFA agent. It added that it will only receive "the fair value of the intermediation" after obtaining the corresponding license.

For its part, the Brazilian press reports that Fernandes will obtain 1.2 million euros ($1.36 million) as a commission for his intervention in the negotiation.

The CBF has wanted Ancelotti for two years, with the intention of changing the fortunes of the 'Canarinha', who have had a bad run of results, even though they have one foot in the next World Cup, although there are many doubts as to whether they will be able to succeed in the competition

Ancelotti's debut with Brazil is scheduled for June 5 when they visit Ecuador, as part of the Conmebol World Cup qualifiers. Five days later, they will host Paraguay, with the intention of securing a ticket to the World Cup.
