The controversy broke out when journalist Gonzalo Sotel spread a rumor on X (Twitter) about an alleged incident involving Jorgelina Cardoso.

According to the publication, the Argentine footballer's wife was outraged to discover the names of several models on the guest list at the private condominium where they reside: "The wife of a former Argentine national team player and current Rosario Central player caused a stir when she checked the guest lists of the exclusive Funes Hill neighbourhood. After Di Maria's reaction, the user posted another message mentioning the name of one of the alleged women who had entered the condominium, but deleted it shortly afterwards, according to Diario Ole.

Di Maria's wife, Jorgelina Cardoso, also reacted on social media against the journalist for spreading a false rumor about her.

Faced with the avalanche of messages he received on his personal cell phone, Gonzalo Sotelo posted on Instagram: "If something happens to me, I hold responsible the one who leaked my number."
