Jorge Mendes has hit back at recent criticism of his client Lamine Yamal, who has been questioned in recent weeks for his media presence and some comments prior to the Clasico against Real Madrid. The 18-year-old forward, considered one of Barcelona's most promising talents, responded with an outstanding performance against Club Brugge, although the media noise has not stopped.

The Portuguese representative, known for having managed the career of Cristiano Ronaldo, expressed his surprise at the intensity of the criticism towards the Barcelona player. "I don't understand all the fuss surrounding Lamine Yamal. We've all been 18 years old. What we have to do is support him and help him as much as possible, because he is a great asset to the club," said Mendes.

The agent insisted that Yamal is fully focused on his career and that the player's entourage works to protect him from media pressure. "Having everyone watching you is a big responsibility. He is handling it very well and we must continue to help him," he added.
Barcelona seeks to protect its public image
From the club's point of view, a message of calm has been conveyed, but measures have also been taken to limit the young footballer's public appearances in order to reduce the level of media exposure. Yamal himself published on social media his displeasure at what he described as "lies" about his behaviour off the pitch.
Despite his young age, the player has become one of the most recognisable faces in the team and a role model for younger fans. Barcelona are confident that his development will continue uninterrupted, and that the winger's talent will continue to shine on the pitch.
"Talk less and focus on work", Mendes' advice
Mendes acknowledged that the episode prior to the Clasico, when Yamal joked that Real Madrid "steals matches", was a turning point. Since then, the agent and the club have insisted on keeping a more reserved profile.
"Lamine knows what he has to do: concentrate on working and not talking too much. He's a smart, hard-working kid," said Mendes. "He has a small physical problem that he is solving with the club, but the most important thing is that he recovers and continues to contribute to the team."
The agent concluded by highlighting the player's maturity and natural talent: "In every game he leaves a masterpiece. The best thing Lamine can do is let his football do the talking for him".
